Bye for now

Let's face it.

I'm not that good at blogging... mainly because I can NEVER keep up with it.  Life always gets in the way.  It was school, and now it's work, and I feel like there will always be an excuse for me.  At least right now.

While I actually love blogging when I sit down to do it, I've come to the realization that I have too many things going on in my life right now.  As my last post said, I just recently started an online vintage shop. And I love it!  But it takes a lot of time.  A lot of time going around town, searching for perfect pieces.  It takes a lot of time and effort to shoot the pieces and list them on the website.  And then we package and ship them.  It's a process.  And most of the time we are in the middle of that process and it repeats again and is kind of never-ending.  So we stay busy, which is awesome!

I've decided that I really want to pour all of my time and effort into Villere Vintage.  I do not want to half-ass anything really.  So that is why I am letting this blog go for now... It is just not what I want it to be right now.  If I am going to be a blogger, I want to do it right, with full force.  I just don't feel as if I can do that right now.

I'm giving blogging a hiatus, maybe for forever, maybe for few months... who knows?

I'll stay active on my personal instagram, and @villerevintage instagram. So be on the lookout for updates there.    Thanks for following along on this erratic blogging journey... bye for now!

I always do this...

I always do this...

I always have HUGE chunks of time in between blog posts.  And I really mean to update more, but life gets in the way.  This time, I have a pretty good excuse though.  I have not been super focused on the blog because I have recently started a small online business with my boo thang!

If you haven't already heard by now, we started Villere Vintage - an online vintage/pre-owned store on the app, Depop.  This app is similar to Etsy, Poshmark, etc.  We search for and hand pick each item!  We started this as kind of a side hustle, but it has proven to be a fun hobby for both of us.  We love digging through old houses, flea markets, antique malls, etc to find really unique pieces to sell.

I am a lover of all things vintage, but I cannot store everything I like in my own home.  This is a way for me to practice my love of thrifting/antiquing without filling my closet to the brim.  I love being able to send off cute, vintage clothes to people all over the US.  It is truly so much fun!

Check us out on depop

The Dream of the 90s

Coming to you today with a blast from the past. This outfit was obviously 90s inspired. I love that this style is trendy again, and you can get the look without buying from fast fashion!  I found this little dress at Goodwill last week and couldn't wait to wear it.  The bottom had a ruffle, so I cut it off (very badly) like a true 90s fashion queen.  With this hair and outfit I feel as if I should be in Perks of Being a Wallflower or something else with a manic pixie dream girl, right?

Now I'm feeling the need to watch Clueless and binge watch a few episodes of Friends.  What is your favorite show/movie from the 90s?

World Environment Day

Today is World Environment Day!   While I think that every day should be considered World Environment Day, I thought it would be nice to acknowledge this day specifically.

Recently, I have made some lifestyle changes in order to be more friendly to our earth.  Here are some things I've initiated in my life:

  • Buy used! This includes household items, clothes, furniture, etc.  Anything that can be bought used, I try my best to do so.
  • Use sustainable products!  For years, I have used a Nalgene water bottle, to reduce the use of plastic bottled water.  I also bought a few reusable straws so that I do not have to use plastic ones that get stuck in turtles' noses.  (If you haven't seen that video, don't watch it unless you want to die inside)   I also bought some glass pyrex dishes to carry my lunch in!
  • Recycle!  I recently moved into a new place and someone stole our recycling bin!  However, that has not stopped us from recycling.  We have a huge pile of cardboard and cans in my kitchen waiting on our new recycling bin.
  • Borrow/trade!  Is there something you want to read? Borrow it.  You like your friend's shirt? Borrow it.  You don't have a lawnmower of your own? Borrow one.  This saves you from buying new things!
  • Conserve energy!  I'm not sure if you know this but your house does not have to be 65 degrees at all times.  Don't cool your house when no one is there.  Keep your air turned off at night. Yes, I've been sweating a bit more recently but I keep my air off for as long as possible!  In the winter, I plan to use blankets! Lots of them.
Also, carpool.  Or walk where you can! Just last night, I walked to get dinner instead of driving. Or bike (granted, I don't bike but I would like to)
  • Use your money as votes!  I am poor and also very cheap so this one is hard for me.  But I try my best to spend money on things I believe in.  Like organic foods, sustainable products, natural products, local businesses, etc.
  • Eat better!  Personally, I am a vegetarian because I do not support the meat industry and what it does to our environment.  Apparently, it takes 2500 gallons of water to make one pound of meat. THAT SUCKS.  The meat industry exploits the earth, animals, farmers, and employees.  Do yourself a favor and watch Food Inc. right now on Netflix.

One important thing to remember is that the "environment" is not some separate thing from us.  We are part of the environment.  We make up the environment.  Humans are responsible for the earth.  We are literally the only species that can be held responsible... nothing else is capable.  It is just us! Let's care for Earth, because Earth gives us life and cares for us.

Post Grad Girl

A few weeks ago, I graduated from university.  I spent four years at my school, and left with a degree in Psychology.  Now what?

I've experienced that everyone wants to know what I'm doing.  Well, they act as if they want to know at least.  And I am constantly faced with the same questions:  What are you doing now that you've graduated?  Where are you working?  So what do you want to do?  Have you looked into any real jobs?  How are you going to use your degree?

And to those things I want to say: SHUT UP, IT DOES NOT MATTER.  I understand that people are trying to be friendly, however it puts a lot of pressure on post grads.  When I tell people I am working a few part time jobs, you should see the looks I get.  They range from pity, to shock, to disappointment, etc.  Personally, I feel as if I have to have the "right" answers to those questions.  I have to be in a perfect job in my field and love it, otherwise I'm a failure.  And let me tell you, that is NOT how it goes.

This is my reality right now... I am working three jobs, I have a small apartment with a good roommate, I have a cat and a dog I can cuddle with, I have a few friends I am spending my free time with.  And that is enough.  I am happy.  I've never been happier in my entire life.  Yes, the transition has been tough.  I'm trying to figure out how to live on my own and balance time, relationships, jobs, and finances.  But I am surviving!  I am trying!  I am responding to change the best way I know how.  I am experiencing life every day.  Taking in life one day at a time.  And I love every second of it.

I encourage anyone (especially those recent graduates) to live their lives!  Make yourself happy.  You do not have to have a "perfect" job.  You do not have to decide at 22 years old what you want to do for the rest of your life.  Try new things. Get out of your box and do something that scares you!  Sit and breathe.  Go on a walk and thank the trees and smell a flower.  Experience.  Live.  And do not feel pressure to have it all figured out.  You are the creator of your own happiness.

Peace and love,

Keaton

changes

Hello lovelies,

It has been a loooong time.  I needed to take a break from this blog for a little while, but I feel inspired and encouraged to start blogging again.  However, it may be a little different.

Recently, I began to change my lifestyle.  I became vegetarian and have been trying to live a more green, sustainable lifestyle.

I've had the privilege of being able to take an Environmental Justice class this semester, and I've loved it and become really passionate about it!  The other day, my professor was teaching us the permaculture flower, which represents ethics and principles to help create a sustainable culture.  Permaculture is mainly taught as an agricultural system that is intended to be self sufficient and sustainable.  However, as our professor was teaching these principles, I could not help but relate them to my every day life (that does not include farming!)

As you can see, the three main goals are care for the earth, care for people, and fair share.  Along the outside are principles to implement while practicing permaculture.  My goal is to implement this design into my every day life and live as sustainable as possible.  These principles can also be used to foster physical and mental wellness.

It won't happen over night... it will most likely happen in slow, small steps and I may not ever be "perfect" or the most sustainable or environmentally friendly person in the world.

But I intend to share my journey here.  You can look forward to posts about food, fashion, lifestyle, etc... just from a different standpoint than you might be used to!  I'm very excited and I hope you are too.

Happy Halloween!!!

Y'all.  Fall is a favorite of mine.  Growing up, we had lots of fall "tradition" kind of things.  My mom would always decorate our house all fall like.  We would make the pumpkin and ghost sugar cookies (which I still do on my own, by the way).  Football was always on TV on Saturday.  Our house would fill up with the smell of soup cooking on the stove.

Since moving away from home, I've tried to recreate that fall feeling.   This fall has really not felt like it, though.  I'm talking to you, heat.  Anyway, that still didn't prevent me from at least trying to do some fall things.

This weekend I spent some time doing Halloween themed activities.  I've watched a couple Disney channel Halloween movies.  I went to a costume party and a graveyard.  And I carved a pumpkin today, just in time for Halloween tomorrow.  However, the only people that will see it are the two girls that live across from me. Now I'm gonna go eat some Halloween candy!
